Pisces Eclipse: Release and Leap into the Unknown
The upcoming Pisces Lunar Eclipse on September 7th begins a new eclipse season, with its counterpart, the Virgo Solar Eclipse, following on September 21st. Eclipses always come in pairs and often signal significant shifts in our lives. They invite us to let go in one area so that we can step into new energy in another. This pair falls along the Virgo-Pisces axis, which may bring changes related to the houses these signs occupy in your chart. With the South Node in Virgo, eclipses on this axis encourage us to release the need for control, perfection, and over-analysis (Virgo) so that we can embrace intuition, compassion, and a deeper sense of trust (Pisces). These themes may show up in the areas of life represented by the houses where Pisces and Virgo fall in your chart.
For instance, if you’re a Sagittarius Rising, this eclipse season will activate your 4th house (Pisces) of home and ancestry, and your 10th house (Virgo) of career and public life. This might look like letting go of perfectionism at work so that you have more time to focus on caregiving or personal responsibilities.
This eclipse will tend to have the greatest impact on those with mutable rising signs—Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces—or for those born near an eclipse. These transits often feel like turning points, where we’re invited to reflect on what no longer serves us and make space for new opportunities. If you’re curious about how these themes might play out in your own life, I’ve created a YouTube video that dives deeper into the astrology of these eclipses.

Transcript (Revised and Expanded)
On September 7th, we have a total Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Pisces. A Lunar Eclipse is basically a Full Moon on steroids. It's this moment where the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, and it looks like the Moon is disappearing from the sky and then reappearing. So symbolically, eclipses always have this vibe of a karmic correction where, if we're holding on to something past the moment when we should, we may be forced to let go. Or, if something new needs to come into our life in the area of our chart where the eclipse falls, we may get something suddenly appearing to help us in our life or a person appears in our life.
There's a lot to unpack with this eclipse video. I'm going to bring up the chart in a minute and talk about the different planets that are impacting it and how it could impact you personally. If you enjoy the video, like and subscribe. It helps people find my content.
This Lunar Eclipse in Pisces marks the beginning of an important eclipse cycle. Eclipses always come in pairs, and this one will be followed by a Solar Eclipse in Virgo in about two weeks. Together, these eclipses activate the Pisces-Virgo axis in our charts, which is all about how we strive for improvement and perfection in life—but on very different levels.
Pisces, a water sign ruled by Jupiter, is expansive, compassionate, and deeply spiritual. It’s about surrendering to something greater than ourselves, embracing intuition, creativity, and emotional flow. Pisces invites us to perfect ourselves spiritually by letting go of rigid control and trusting in the wisdom of the universe.
On the other hand, Virgo, its opposite, is an earth sign ruled by Mercury, the messenger to the gods. Mercury in an earth sign is grounded, practical, and detail-oriented, striving for perfection in the material world. Virgo energy is about organizing, refining, and improving things we can see and touch. It focuses on the here-and-now, often through hard work and precision.
Although these signs appear very different, they share a common thread: the desire to improve and perfect. Pisces does this through emotional depth and spiritual connection, while Virgo does it through practical refinement and order.
As these eclipses unfold, they will activate different areas of life, depending on where Pisces and Virgo are in your chart. This balance between letting go and taking on something new is perfectly illustrated by the Pisces archetype. Imagine a monkey releasing one sturdy branch to leap toward another. It’s a moment of trust and surrender, where letting go is critical to reaching something better. This eclipse season is an invitation to unclench our grip on what feels safe or familiar, so we can embrace growth and step into new possibilities.
Whether it’s about emotional healing, spiritual growth, or refining the practical aspects of your life, this eclipse season will encourage you to align with your higher purpose by balancing Pisces’ surrender with Virgo’s practicality. It’s not about choosing one over the other—it’s about finding harmony between the two.
If the eclipse falls in your first house (the house of self) and your seventh house (the house of partnerships), this could be a time where new opportunities or endings occur in how you see yourself or how you relate to others. For instance, you might find yourself redefining your identity, which could shift the dynamics in your relationships.
If the eclipse activates your fourth house (home, family, ancestry, and literal home) and tenth house (career, public life, and what you contribute to the world), you might experience changes in those areas. For example, you might decide to step away from your job to focus more on your personal life, such as spending time with your family or taking care of your home. This kind of decision reflects the balance between the grounded, practical energy of Virgo and the intuitive, compassionate energy of Pisces.
For other areas of life, much depends on where the eclipses fall in your chart. If you know your rising sign, feel free to comment on the video, and I’ll happily share how these eclipses might impact you. For instance, if the eclipses fall in your second house (personal resources) and eighth house (shared resources), you might see shifts in how you manage your finances or experience changes involving shared wealth, debts, or inheritances.
This general layout explains the "vibe" of eclipse season: a time of endings and beginnings, where certain doors close so new ones can open. Each of us will experience these changes uniquely, depending on where the Pisces-Virgo axis is highlighted in our personal charts.
But what about this eclipse in general, or more specifically, what might it be about? What energy is it carrying? Is it positive? Might it be difficult? Well, we can see that by looking at the particular chart related to the eclipse. Here's the chart. I have a lot of Virgo energy in my chart, so I've put a few of little beautiful circles—Virgos love to color-code!—to show you the energy.
If I had to summarize it in general, eclipses often bring a sense of instability and a potential for change. That energy feels even more amplified with this particular eclipse for a couple of reasons.
First, it’s happening in the mutable signs of Pisces and Virgo. Mutable signs are inherently flexible, adaptable, and changeable. They’re about adjusting, improving, and tweaking things—whether that’s on the emotional and spiritual level (Pisces) or the practical and material level (Virgo). This means the energy of this eclipse is already primed for transitions and shifts, encouraging us to let go of what isn’t working and make space for something better.
Second, we have Uranus in play. Uranus is an outer planet associated with sudden changes, awakenings, and liberation. It was discovered during the time of the French and American Revolutions, so its energy is revolutionary and disruptive, like the "Tower" card in tarot. Uranus shakes up old structures and ideas, pushing us to break free from stagnation and embrace new perspectives.
What makes Uranus particularly significant here is that it turns retrograde the day before the eclipse. Retrogrades slow down a planet’s movement from our perspective, making its energy more concentrated and noticeable. With Uranus moving so slowly and closely involved with this eclipse, its influence adds to the unpredictability and potential for sudden shifts. It’s as though the universe is saying, “Wake up! It’s time to change.”
Together, the mutable energy of Pisces and Virgo and the revolutionary energy of Uranus create a powerful mix. This is a time to embrace flexibility, trust the process, and be open to unexpected shifts. While change can feel unsettling, it’s often exactly what we need to grow and evolve.
.
So that’s an added layer of, “Okay, this might bring some sudden changes.” And eclipses themselves, of course, are about changes—they’re about things appearing and disappearing, “major beginnings and major endings,” as Chris Brennan likes to refer to them on his astrology podcast.
During eclipse season, it’s always good to prepare yourself for the inevitability of change. Life is change, life is flux. Grounding yourself through meditation or any practice that keeps you steady is always a good idea. In case something comes out of the blue—it could be good, it could be bad, we don’t know—it’s helpful to have that foundation of calm to rely on.
I know that during the Full Moon and New Moon, I always feel a lot more energy in my body, and that’s even more likely during eclipses, when the energy ramps up because change feels like it’s just around the corner.
Taking a deeper look at the chart, we also see Uranus at play. Excuse me—I just moved my little slide; bear with me—I think I’ve got it. There we go, the wonders of technology. This is a little bit Uranian in itself, because Uranus is all about change. And, of course, it’s tied to technology as well. So, you could experience this energy as technology issues or disruptions showing up in the larger, mundane world. Think of all the changes we’ve been seeing recently with AI and similar innovations.
So, that’s another layer of this eclipse season. Uranus is tied to sudden shifts and awakening, and its influence may bring unexpected developments, whether in your personal life or on a global scale. It’s a time to stay flexible and grounded, ready to adapt to whatever comes your way.
The other two pieces in this chart are: first, we have Jupiter squaring Mars. Now, Jupiter is super happy here because he's in his exaltation in Cancer—that’s why there’s a star here. But Mars is creating tension because of this square. Mars, being a difficult planet, is impeding Jupiter’s energy. This is a pretty tight square, only a degree apart, so it could mean that if you’ve been experiencing some success or good fortune in the area of life governed by Cancer in your chart, that energy might slow down a bit during this period. Mars is essentially throwing some challenges Jupiter’s way, which could cause delays or frustrations.
For example, if Cancer is your rising sign and you’ve been feeling good about improvements in your identity or sense of self, this square from Mars could temporarily slow that momentum or make things feel a bit more tense.
The second piece is Saturn’s involvement in this chart. Saturn is sitting down here with the eclipse. Saturn is the planet that asks us to be responsible, work hard, and face reality—it’s not exactly known for being fun. If the eclipse is happening in your fifth house, which governs fun, creativity, pleasure, and children, Saturn’s presence could dampen some of the joy or lightness in those areas. Imagine planning something fun or creative, but Saturn brings delays, extra responsibilities, or a heavier tone. It’s not insurmountable, but it could feel like a bit of a drag during this time.
One last thing to note is that eclipses happen in cycles, so one way to understand what might be coming up now is to reflect on what was happening the last time we had an eclipse in Pisces. If you keep a journal, go back to September of last year—that’s when we last had an eclipse in this sign. Eclipses in Pisces and Virgo occur in a series over about two years, so they often tell an unfolding story.
For instance, if you’re a Pisces rising and the eclipse last September was in your first house (the house of self), you might recall some significant shift in how you see yourself or present yourself to the world and that may have been tied to relationship issues (7th House Virgo). This current eclipse could represent the next chapter of that same story.
I hope this helps you understand the energy of this eclipse. If you enjoyed this, feel free to like and subscribe, and I’ll see you in a couple of weeks for the Solar Eclipse video.
